Jamila Bess Johnson has been named Special Assistant to Roy Stewart, Mass Media Bureau Chief. In her new position, Johnson will be responsible for coordinating the Bureau's legal matters pertaining to the Audio Services Division, Video Services Division, Policy and Rules Division and the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Staff. Johnson will also have responsibility for dealing with policy and planning issues in the Bureau. She will be particularly involved with key issues facing the Bureau, such as the ongoing biennial review process; the inquiry into broadcast public interest obligations; merger review and the implementation of new EEO rules. Prior to her new assignment, Johnson had been a senior attorney advisor in the Bureau's Policy and Rules Division. She has also served as a Supervisory Attorney in the Bureau's EEO Branch. Before joining the Commission, Johnson was a trial attorney with the Office of Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia. She has worked in network radio as a news producer for the Mutual Radio Network and a producer/writer for public television. She served as a legislative assistant to former Rep. Walter Fauntroy (D) District of Columbia. She holds a J.D. degree from Howard University Law School and a B.A. in Radio Communications and Journalism from the Howard University School of Communications. Johnson resides in Washington, D.C. with her sons, Malcolm and Jordan, and husband, Fletcher Johnson. -- FCC --
