SUSANNA ZWERLING NAMED ASSISTANT BUREAU CHIEF FOR PLANNING
AND COMMUNICATION IN THE MASS MEDIA BUREAU

Washington, DC--Susanna Zwerling has been named Assistant Bureau Chief for Planning and Communication in the Mass Media Bureau (MMB). In her new position, Zwerling will be responsible for planning, external relations and consumer outreach concerning various MMB policies, programs and services.

Prior to her new assignment, she had been special counsel to the bureau chief since August 1999, and for two years before that had been an attorney-advisor in the MMB's Policy and Rules Division, working on matters related to the transition to digital television.

Before joining the Commission in July 1997, Zwerling was a trial attorney in the Telecommunications Task Force of the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice. While at Justice, she was detailed to the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the acquisition of Turner Broadcasting System by Time Warner, Inc.

Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Zwerling was an associate with the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton in New York and a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She has also served as a legislative assistant to then-Congressman Charles E. Schumer of New York.

She holds a J.D. degree from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from Wesleyan University.
