Report No. MM 95-59 MASS MEDIA ACTION July 20, 1995 NAACP DENIED RECONSIDERATION OF LICENSE RENEWALS FOR WCUZ/WCUZ-FM, GRAND RAPIDS, MI The Commission has denied the Michigan State Conference of Branches of the NAACP's petition for reconsideration concerning the license renewal applications Pathfinder Communications Corporation for WCUZ/WCUZ-FM, Grand Rapids, MI. In granting the license renewals and denying the NAACP's petition to deny, the Commission found no evidence of discrimination but admonished Pathfinder to keep complete recruiting records. In seeking reconsideration, the NAACP did not dispute any factual finding concerning the stations. Rather, it faulted the decision for not ordering a hearing or forfeiture based on the licensee's hiring record with respect to African-Americans. Because the Commission fully considered Pathfinder's efforts, including those concerning African-Americans, in reaching its decision, it denied reconsideration. Action by the Commission July 14, 1995, by Memorandum Opinion and Order (FCC 95-292). Chairman Hundt, Commissioners Quello, Barrett, Ness, and Chong. -FCC- News Media contact: Patricia A.
