Nolletti (Robert=Nolletti%LabA%WAYNE@polskys.cc.uakron.edu) writes: I agree that we have before us great new possibilities for education through televison and the internet, and we should protect our children from the more adult oriented and sometimes profane content that exists over these mediums of communication. However, in my opinion we are going about this the wrong way. The Telecommunications Bill is a giant step torwards a stronger regulation of the internet, television, and of other communication mediums. However, what the bill is attempting to do is to eliminate any and all material that might be considered innapropriate for children. In doing this, the bill also regulates and limits what everyone esle is permitted to view and create. This is a direct violation of the freedom of speech and a giant step backwards for our country. Tecnology is already providing us with the means of protecting our children without need for this kind of censorship of tv and the net. The V-chip will block adult oriented television programs from children. Furthermore, there are numerous software programs already on the market that blocks out "cyber smut." Also, I feel that it is the responsibility of the parents to control what their children are watching on tv and the internet, not the governments. We need to leave parenting to parents. Robert J.
