Date: 9/6/95 12:14pm Subject: Children's Television Act 06 Sep 95 Mr President, Please help strengthen the Children's Television Act by requiring broadcasters to devote some minimum number of hours to children's programming. Without your intervention we will see less and less programming that is suitable for our young, because the television industry simply does not choose to further the positive development of our children. Our children need an advocate... and the television industry is NOT it. Broadcasters have a duty to serve the public through the television medium. Part of this responsibility must include programming that nurtures and educates our impressionable young. It also means that clearly "adult" material must be restricted from family viewing hours. Neither FCC nor so-called broadcast standards people (industry censors) have been able or willing to stop the constant barrage of vulgarity, sex chat shows, sex soaps and sexual messages that permeate virtually every program that is not devoted only to our children. The availability of some children channels on cable TV is not enough. Much of our population can not afford to pay for cable TV... and frankly the ability to pay for cable TV shouldn't be the prerequisite for quality children's programming. FOX, CBS, ABC and NBC operate in the public domain... a spectra owned by the public. They must be required once again to serve the public best interest. This includes our children whose needs and maturity are different that the 18-49 year old bracket. I want the FCC to take a stand, strengthen the Children's Television Act and do us a public service. Sincerely, Rob Robbins 2160 Chalcedony Street San Diego, CA 92109 I write as a private citizen, concerned parent and disillusioned television programming consumer.
