From: Frank Baker To: A16.A16(KIDSTV) Date: 8/28/95 5:35pm Subject: PUSH FOR EDUCATIONAL TV Dear Commissioner Hundt, As a parent and educator, I am pleased to hear your continued push for quality educational tv on the commercial stations. For the past 9 years, I have served as the Program Specialist for Instructional TV for Orange County Public Schools (Orlando FL). I worked closely with our PBS station to ensure teacher support materials get out to our schools. But it is extremely frustrating to read an ad in a national magazine for shows that our commercial stations bump for news or other programming.I get the feeling commercial stations don't realize the power of the licenses they hold, nor do they go out in the community and survey their users. On another subject I am pleased that Time Warner Cable is implementing a medialiteracy campaign, of which the school system is an active part. Now there's a case in point, where a corporation saw a weakness and created curriculum to satisfy the need. Mr. Hundt, if you need an educator to testify about this vital and important issue, please feel free to contact me. I would love to discuss this issue with you at greater length. Sincerely, Frank W.
