                     APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FOR FILING


       The applications listed below have been found, upon initial review, to be acceptable for
filing.  The Commission reserves the right to return any of the applications if, upon further
examination, it is determined the application is not in conformance with the Commission's Rules
or its policies.  Petitions, oppositions and other pleadings filed in response to this notice should

COMSAT Corporation                                 File No. CSS-93-009(4)-A

       Comsat Corporation, by its COMSAT World Systems business unit, has filed a
       "Further Supplement" to its pending application to participate in the procurement
       of up to four INTELSAT VIII satellites.  The Further Supplement details an
       agreement reached with Columbia Communications Corporation which resolves
       the long-standing conflict related to the 319/319.5ø E.L. orbital location.  

       Interested parties may file comments or petitions on COMSAT's Fruther
       Supplement on or before February 2, 1998.  Reply comments or oppositions to
       petitions may be filed on or before February 9, 1998.
