October 21, 1998 LINDA HALLER AND ADONIS HOFFMAN APPOINTED TO POSITIONS IN THE INTERNATIONAL BUREAU Linda Haller and Adonis Hoffman have recently been appointed to key positions within the International Bureau. Haller will serve as a Senior Legal Advisor to the Chief, International Bureau, where she will advise the Bureau on satellite policy and licensing issues. Hoffman will serve as the Senior Counsel to the Chief, Telecommunications Division. In this position he will aid in coordinating international development policy for the Commission. Haller joined the International Bureau in July 1997 as a Senior Legal Advisor, Satellite Policy Branch, Satellite and Radiocommunication Division. In that capacity, she worked on initiatives to promote competition and market access opportunities in the global satellite market, including implementation of the World Trade Organization Agreement. Prior to joining the Bureau, Haller held other significant positions within the Commission. She was a Senior Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel from 1994-1997, and an attorney in the FCC's Common Carrier Bureau and Private Radio Bureau from 1991 to 1994. From 1987-1990, Haller practiced employment law and litigation at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Los Angeles, CA, and from 1986-1987, communications law at Pierson, Ball & Dowd in Washington, DC. She is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center, where she was a law review editor. Hoffman came to the FCC from the World Policy Institute where he was a Senior Fellow. From 1994-1997, he was Senior Associate and Director of the International Law program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Prior to that, Hoffman was Staff Director and Counsel to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs Africa Subcommittee. From 1988 to 1991, he practiced legislative and regulatory law in the Washington office of Hopkins & Sutter. Hoffman has been an advisor to governments in developing countries on democracy, governance and legal reform, and to corporations on diversity and inclusion, global policy and corporate responsibility. He has published and lectured widely in these areas. He received an A.B. from Princeton and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Hoffman his wife, Karla, and their two children live in northern Virginia. - FCC -
