NEWSReport No. CI 97-6 COMPLIANCE AND INFORMATION ACTION July 10, 1997 TEN STATES ADDED TO FCC'S TOLL-FREE TELEPHONE INFORMATION SERVICE 1-888-CALL FCC Consumers in the states of Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, and West Virginia are gaining access to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) toll-free telephone service at 1-888-call FCC. The FCC's National Call Center (NCC) began operation on June 3, 1996. Since its inception, the NCC has served nearly 240,000 customers. This toll-free telephone service is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time by dialing 1-888-CALL FCC (1-888-225-5322). The NCC provides operator-assisted information on all issues related to telecommunications including broadcasting, cable television, telephone, satellite, microwave, land mobile, and licensing. Subject matter experts are consulted, as necessary, and the information is provided to the customer quickly and efficiently. The Call Center also provides an automated non-operator- assisted information service, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The National Call Center is a full-service, electronically interactive center with assistance available in Spanish and also to the hearing impaired through a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf (TTY). TTY customers can contact the National Call Center by dialing 1-888-TELL FCC (1-888-835-5322).
