WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554DA 97-1568 News Media Information 202/418-0500 Recorded listing of releases and texts 202/418-2222. COMMON CARRIER BUREAU EXTENDS FILING DATE FOR SUBMITTING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR COMMISSION ACTIONS RELATED TO LOCAL EXCHANGE COMPETITION CCBPol 97-9 Released: July 24, 1997 On July 18, 1997, the Common Carrier Bureau released a Public Notice (DA 97-1519) seeking recommendations from interested persons on Commission actions critical to the promotion of efficient local exchange competition. Later that same day, the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit issued its opinion in Iowa Utilities Board v. FCC. In that opinion, the court vacated certain of the Commission's rules promulgated in the First Report and Order in CC Docket No. 96-98 implementing the local competition provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Responses to the July 18th Public Notice were due no later than August 4, 1997. In light of the opinion by the 8th Circuit and to enable commenters to take that opinion into account in their comments, we will extend that date so that responses should be filed no later than August 11, 1997. Persons filing submissions are reminded that they should include the internal reference number, CCBPol 97-9, on their responses. The ex parte procedures and filing procedures outlined in the July 18th Public Notice remain unchanged. Common Carrier Contact: Claudia Pabo at (202) 418-1580 - FCC -
