            PLEADING CYCLE ESTABLISHED FOR COMMENTS ON
        NYNEX AND AMERITECH PETITIONS FOR FORBEARANCE FROM
              APPLICATION OF SECTION 272 OF THE ACT 
                TO PREVIOUSLY AUTHORIZED SERVICES

       On May 6, 1997, NYNEX Telephone Companies (NYNEX) filed a petition for
forbearance, and on May 13, 1997, the Ameritech Corporation (Ameritech) filed an amended and
restated petition for forbearance, pursuant to section 10 of the Communications Act of 1934, as
amended.  NYNEX and Ameritech request that, to the extent their E911 services are interLATA
information services, the Commission forbear from applying the requirements of section 272 of
the Act to those services.  Ameritech also requests that to the extent its telecommunications relay
services are interLATA information services, the Commission forbear from applying the
requiements of section 272 to those services. 

     Ameritech's May 13, 1997, filing amends and restates a petition for forbearance that
Ameritech filed on April 18, 1997.  The Common Carrier Bureau released a Public Notice, DA
97-889, on April 30, 1997, establishing a comment deadline of May 30, 1997 and a reply
comment deadline of June 13, 1997, for the Ameritech petition.  In view of Ameritech's petition
for forbearance we establish a new pleading cycle set as forth below. 

     Interested parties should file comments on the NYNEX and Ameritech petitions by June
4, 1997, and reply comments by June 16, 1997, with the Secretary, FCC, 1919 M Street, N.W.,
Washington, D.C. 20554.  In addition, two copies should be sent to Janice Myles, Common
Carrier Bureau, FCC, Room 544, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554, and one copy
to International Transcription Service, Inc. (ITS), the Commission's contractor for public service
records duplication.  The NYNEX and Ameritech petitions are available for public inspection
and copying during normal business hours in the FCC's Public Reference Center, Room 239,
1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554.  Copies can also be obtained from ITS at 2100
