PUBLIC NOTICE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION 1919 M STREET, N.W. WASHINGTON, D.C. 20554 DA 97-2452 News media information 202/418-0500 Fax-On-Demand 202/418-2830 Internet: http://www.fcc.gov ftp.fcc.gov CABLE SERVICES ACTION November 21, 1997 US WEST, INC. FILES REQUEST FOR FURTHER EXTENSION OF SPECIAL RELIEF The Cable Services Bureau has received a petition from US WEST, Inc. ("US WEST") requesting a further limited extension of time until July 31, 1998, by which it must comply with the requirements imposed in the Cable Services Bureau's Memorandum Opinion and Order in the Matter of U S WEST, Inc. and Continental Cablevision, Inc., 11 FCC Rcd 13260 (CSB, 1996). According to the petition, the additional extension of time requested is necessary to allow U S WEST, as it exists today, to divest cable television systems in and around St. Paul, Minnesota. In its petition, U S WEST states that it has recently announced the split of its cable business, U S WEST Media Group ("USMG"), and its local exchange business, U S WEST Communications ("WSWC"), into entirely separate, independent, publicly traded companies. U S WEST further states that USMG's retention of the Minnesota systems after the split would satisfy Section 76.505(a) of the Commission's Rules and the underlying objectives of the Bureau's Memorandum Opinion and Order. The petition is available for public inspection in the Cable Services Bureau Public Reference Room: 2033 M Street, N.W. Room 333 Washington, D.C. 20554 (202) 418-7092 Copies of the petition are available for purchase from: ITS, Inc. 1231 20th Street, N.W.
