DA 95-1180 May 31, 1995 CABLE SERVICES BUREAU ANNOUNCES AN EX TENSION OF TIME FOR WHICH RELEVANT FRANC HISE AUTHORITIES MAY "OPT OUT" OF THE SOCI AL CONTRACT FOR CONTINENTAL CABLEVISION, INC. The Cable Services Bureau is extending the "opt out" period for franchise authorities under the proposed Continental Cablevision, Inc. ("Continental") social contract. Under the proposed Continental social contract, franchise authorities may elect to opt out of the basic service tier cost of service refunds by providing written notice to the Commission by June 6, 1995. The revised deadline to opt out is extended to two weeks after the release date of a Commission order adopting the social contract. The extension is made to assure that, before deciding to opt out, franchise authorities will have an opportunity to review the final terms and conditions of the social contract as adopted by the Commission. All such notifications by franchise authorities electing to opt out of the social contract should reference FCC 95-137 and should be filed with the Office of the Secretary, Federal Communications Commission, 1919 M Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20554.
